I see this sand turtle as an homage to the Carolina sea turtle. Just a week or so earlier, lucky visitors to the same Atlantic Beach could witness a rare and moving event: hundreds of little turtles hatching, quickly making their way to the sea, escorted and thus protected from being gobbled up, by people who care for endangered species.
